I picked up my copy of Figment 4 this week and discovered Marvel is killing off Wolverine again. That is a story for another time. Figment 3 and 4 chronicles our heroes adventures in a dimension of dreams, on the path to self discovery. Along the way Blair and Figment are captured by the indigenous Sound Sprites and make friends with a new social outcast. Unbeknownst to them, an alien invasion of conformity is unleashed on London. When their journey drops them into the heart of a nightmare, Blairion Mercurial discovers the true strength of imagination, embraces the power of the dream and becomes the Dream Finder complete with a majestic beard. Will the team find their way back to London in time to stop a mechanical siege of Whovian proportions?
What I love about this title is the presentation of the struggle between creativity and perceived reality. There are reminders that social advancements and world changing discoveries materialize when someone dares to pursue a dream. I will discuss this more in my final thoughts and summaries after issue 5.
The series is concluding October 1st and I’m yet to find what is next for Disney Kingdoms. After my experience with the Adventure Trading Co. this Summer I would welcome an Adventureland story that could move us closer to the rumored Jungle Cruise movie. An intergalactic tale of The Magic Kingdom’s resident crooner Sonny Eclipse of Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe could chart his rise to the top with unexpected cameos of science fiction royalty. A Frontierland title could blend the history of the land’s colorful characters and rides into a race to Thunder Mountain (whatever happened to the proposed TV show). What Disney Kingdom stories would you like to see Marvel and Imagineers collaborate on?
